Bethnal Green Gasholders

The Bethnal Green Gasholders are a testament to the engineering achievements of the nineteenth century. Despite being a former industrial area, the site has excellent connections to public transport, surrounding leisure destinations, parks and ideally situated along Regents Canal.

The 1.9ha site will become a new neighbourhood of 1,000 inhabitants, with cafe/ restaurants, co-live work spaces, a fitness centre, shops, and a new multifunctional public park. The space at the water’s edge takes advantage of the historically industrial and marine elements. The goal of the project is to create the best example of sustainable urban living, providing quality housing and a joyful environment for its inhabitants and users. The Gasholders Park will host two circular canopy’s constructed from timber that can be re-adjusted to host activities such as theatre productions, a skatepark, concert venue or even an ice rink, ultimately inviting users and passers by with a combination of year-round programming for different age groups and levels of engagement. The Gasholders themselves will become a new canal destination in its own right with an intimate garden roofscape offering 360 degree views of London and a future destination for leisure and recreation.
